WonderMill Grain Mill

I was really blessed to be able to try out the WonderMill Electric Grain Mill. This is an absolutely amazing piece of machinery. I love that the WonderMill Electric Grain Mill allows you to create so many varieties of flour at home. Hubby and I tried out the mill and were very pleased with the results. We made rice flour first. I can't explain to y'all how user friendly and simple the WonderMill Electric Grain Mill is to use. Plug it in, turn it on, pour your grain, rice or whatever you are milling in the grinding side, wait til it is finished milling, (You can tell it's done from the change in sound) turn off the machine and presto you have the freshly ground flour of your choosing. How easy is that. The container that the flour falls into while grinding can also be used as a canister for flour storage. Even comes with an airtight lid.

 I looked online for recipes for rice flour and found many of them to be for batters such as tempura. This is great , but you know I like getting creative. We decided on  Rice Flour Pancakes. I tried a recipe that I found on the web and did not like the results. The flour we made came out like baby powder. We had milled the rice on the pastry flour setting and it came out beautifully smooth I could not see why the pancakes were so dense in texture.

 Hubby decided we just needed a new recipe. So we played around a bit and since making more rice flour was so simple we experimented til we came out with a recipe I am proud to share with y'all.
I present to you...

Vanilla Rice Flour Pancakes

Ingredients
1 egg beaten
1 TBS canola Oil
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup vanilla almond milk


Blend first four ingredients together

1 cup rice flour made in your WonderMill
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder

Whisk together next 3 ingredients
Blend wet and dry ingredients together. Make sure to get rid of any lumps. Batter is a bit thicker that normal pancake batter.
Heat griddle over medium high heat. Add bit of butter. let it melt. Drop batter by spoonful onto melted butter. Cook until edges are done. Flip and coo other side. Serve warm with your favorite syrup.

 Hubby and I will be experimenting with the WonderMill Grain Mill and will be posting more recipes soon. I am heading to our local health food store this week to find more grains to mill. The WonderMill Grain Mill is a fun way to get healthy and enjoy time together as a family creating and enjoying your culinary creations.

Royal Berkey Water Filter

  I was really happy to get the chance to review the Royal Berkey Water Filter from Big Berkey. The Royal Berkey is a super stylish water filter that will look fabulous in any decor.
 We live in the country and have well water. We have it tested occasionally just to make sure it is good. Every time it is tested the water folks tell us it is of excellent quality and could be bottled and sold. When we received the Royal Berkey for review I really was not expecting much change in our water after filtration. Was I surprised at the results. The filtered water was much smoother on the tongue and had no hint of bitter flavor. 
 Y'all know we all did the taste test. Everyone agreed the Royal Berkey filtered water  tasted much better than our well water unfiltered.
 We even made ice cubes with the filtered water. Comparison showed that the unfiltered water left mineral deposits floating in the glass after the ice melted. The ice that was filtered did not. So you can see the Royal Berkey really gets the job done.
We will be moving soon and will have to deal with city water once again. What a relief it is to know that the Royal Berkey will make our water pure and clean

 RobeMart sent over one of their wholesale  bathrobes for us to review. This is a soft inside and out terrycloth kimono. It's 100% cotton and made in Turkey.

 Material is strong and stitched together well. Has nice details and included pockets. I don't know if it's just me, but I like pockets on my robes. This Kimono also has the handy hook loop in the neckline for ease of hanging.

LightSpeed Tents Quick Cabana

LightSpeed Tents sent over one of their Quick Cabanas for us to review. This is a really cool half style tent that is perfect for the beach or any other place you need pretty close to instant shade. I say almost instant cuz this baby is so easy to put up it's amazing. I tried in the front yard on a fairly windy day, You know to test it for putting it up in on the beach conditions. I always see these people trying to put their shade area up on the beach having such trouble in the wind. No problem at all with the LightSpeed Tent Quick Cabana. I had our set up in 45 seconds with no help at all. This was first time set up to y'all. Directions are clear and set up is a breeze. No pun intended.
 This cool cabana is well made of high quality fabric. It seems to be stitched together quite well too. We are going to get alot of use out of LightSpeed Tent's Quick Cabana.

"Cooper and Me"

I was sent a new book by an 11 year old girl and her mom. They describe a child's view of the first day of school. "Cooper and Me" shows the way kids might feel going to school for the first time. They may be a bit apprehensive. "Cooper and Me" shows a way to get past these little issues.

 Alexa Peters, the 11 year old illustrator, does an excellent job. The pictures are full of life.  The writing is what you would expect from a child. No Shakespearean English here.

 There is a place included  in the back of the book to record your own child's memories from their first day of school.

About Cooper and Me:

 I just want to say thank y'all for sticking with Texas Kitchen. If some of y'all are new, this blog was published on Blogger for a year and a half. We came a long way in that time. On Oct 12 Blogger suddenly lost all the comments that you guys had spent so much precious time posting.  I have tried working with Blogger, but since they do not seem concerned with me or the at least 118 other blogs that posted in the help section I have decided to move on.

 Makes very light pancakes, The texture is fluffy like pancakes are supposed to be. I used the recipe on the bag and it turned out  perfectly first time. The small batch made four nice sized pancakes with true buttermilk  pancake flavor.

 I personally wanted to hook up the clock to our daughter's bed without her knowing. (Hubby said that was mean. I knew he was right but I just can't help thinking it might be just a little funny.) Find It Game Deluxe Edition

  I love games that bring the family together. I really love games that entertain everyone in the family young and old alike. Find It has quite a variety of their games available for family fun. With Find It the object of the game is to "simply" find the items hidden inside the cylinder. With Find It Deluxe Edition there are 70 hidden items to search for.

  Hubby and I played the game to try it out and had a really good time. We were laughing and talking about "Man, I just saw that one" and "This is actually fun" Those quotes are coming from a grown man y'all so even Dad will enjoy playing with the kids, or you.

 Find It Deluxe Edition has directions for 6 different styles of play using the same game. The instructions are super simple so even the little ones can play. You do not even have to know how to read to enjoy playing Find It. Like I said fun for all.

Marx Foods Dried Chiles Take Two

Y'all know I love spice. Not to hot, but just enough to give your food some serious flavor. I played around with three more Dried Chiles from Marx Foods.
First up we tried out the:

Cascabel Chilies

Cascabel chilies (aka rattle chilies, little bell chilies) are mild chilies that are round and have several loose seeds that rattle loudly when the chilies are shaken.
Hubby and I got in the kitchen and played with three of em over the weekend.


For these beauties we found a recipe from Bobby Flay for Grilled Lamb Porterhouse with Fig-Cascabel Sauce (If y'all want that recipe it's on FoodTV.com. Sorry I can't include it here for copyright reasons. The Cascabel Chiles from Marx Foods add a slight heat to the fig sauce. Absolutely delicious.

Next We had some fun with some serious heat.
Habanero Chiles

Habanero Chiles (Capsicum Annuum) are very hot chiles. Behind the heat is a fruity flavor that makes these chiles a wonderful way to spark up a dish. Habanero chilies are round, oblong and about ¾ inch wide. Consider the habanero to be a 10 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the hottest).  The only hotter chile we offer is the famous ghost chili. 
 This one is my recipe so I can share with y'all

Habaenero Rosemary mixed Nuts 

3 TBS butter
1 dried Habanero
2 TBS Rosemary
1 tsp Coarse Sea Salt
1/2 tsp table salt
1 tsp granulated sugar
3 cups total (raw peanuts and pecan halves mixed)
Extra salt and sugar if wanted sprinkled on after roasting

First you will need to use your spice grinder on one dried habanero chile from Marx Foods and 2 TBS of dried rosemary. Melt butter in saucepan. Mix in spices. Pour over nuts and stir to coat evenly. Pour all onto foil lined cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 - 11 minutes or until desired roastiness. When removed you may sprinkle with additional salt and sugar while still warm.

Next up are the
Mulato Peppers

 Mulato peppers are dried versions of the popular poblano pepper. However, though they come from the same pepper as ancho chilies, mulato chilies tend to be sweeter, softer, and darker in color. Mulato peppers are often used to replace ancho peppers in the trinity of chilies (with pasilla negro chilies and gaujillo chilies) used to make traditional mole. Mulato peppers possess mild heat with an earthy fruitiness.


 For these chiles we tested out one of Marx Foods recipes Homemade Barbecue Sauce Recipe
We were supposed to use a Serrano chile but I did not have one and opted for the Mulato. This recipe turned out absolutely awesome. I have been thrilled with every recipe I have tried from the Marx Foods website. Y'all have really got to check out their site.
